El papa Francisco ha recomendado a los jóvenes “consumir menos carne” para contribuir a “salvar el medio ambiente”. Así lo plantea en un mensaje dirigido a los participantes de la Conferencia Europea de la Juventud, que se celebra desde este lunes hasta el miércoles en Praga (República Checa).
“Es urgente reducir el consumo no sólo de combustibles fósiles, sino también de muchas cosas superfluas; e igualmente, en ciertas zonas del mundo, sería conveniente consumir menos carne, esto también puede ayudar a salvar el medio ambiente”, subraya el Pontífice en su mensaje, recogido.
Bergoglio dice que le alegra comprobar que, “mientras las generaciones anteriores hablaban mucho y concluían poco” los jóvenes de hoy son “capaces de tomar iniciativas concretas”. Por ello, les anima a luchar contra la “tendencia autodestructiva” y a aspirar a una vida “digna y sobria, sin lujos ni derroches, para que todos puedan habitar el mundo con dignidad”.
Las generaciones anteriores hablaban mucho y concluían poco
El Papa ha mostrado su esperanza en los jóvenes de hoy en día, “atentos, menos ideologizados, acostumbrados a estudiar en otros países europeos, abiertos a las experiencias de voluntariado, sensibles a las cuestiones medioambientales”.
“Una nueva cara de Europa”
“Vosotros, jóvenes europeos, tenéis una misión importante. Si en el pasado vuestros ancestros viajaron a otros continentes, no siempre por intereses nobles, ahora os toca a vosotros presentar al mundo una nueva cara de Europa”, declara Francisco.
En este sentido, Bergoglio ha pedido a la juventud que tenga “una mirada amplia y abierta”. También les invita a “alzar su voz” y añade que, “viendo cómo va este mundo dirigido por los adultos y los mayores”, parece que “tal vez” deberían ser los jóvenes los que educaran “a los adultos en la fraternidad y la convivencia pacífica”.

Igualmente, les reclama que no se dejen “arrastrar por ideologías miopes que quieren mostrar al otro, al que es diferente, como un enemigo” y les anima a ser “solidarios” con todos, incluir a las personas migrantes y “no discriminar a nadie” por su nacionalidad o condición social.
También les dice que es “legítimo rebelarse” para promover la paz frente a la guerra “donde, como siempre, unos pocos poderosos deciden y envían a miles de jóvenes a luchar y morir”. “En Ucrania ―que no es la UE, pero sí Europa― se libra una guerra absurda. Sumado a los numerosos conflictos que tienen lugar en diferentes regiones del mundo, se hace más urgente un Pacto Educativo que eduque a todos en la fraternidad”, abunda el Pontífice.
Rechaza las escuelas de élite
Al mismo tiempo, les sugiere que su mayor aspiración “no sea entrar en entornos educativos de élite, donde sólo pueden acceder los que tienen mucho dinero”. Estas instituciones, según advierte el Pontífice, “suelen tener interés en mantener el status quo, en formar a las personas para que el sistema funcione tal y como está”.
En su lugar, les propone que valoren aquellas realidades “que combinan la calidad educativa con el servicio a los demás”. “Son estas experiencias de solidaridad las que cambiarán el mundo, no las experiencias ‘exclusivas’ (y excluyentes) de las escuelas de élite”, insiste.
