El presidente estadounidense Donald Trump reafirmó que el uso del ejército en Venezuela es 'una opción' que se ha considerado ante la crisis política en el país.
Cuando se le preguntó, durante una entrevista con el canal estadounidense CBS difundida el domingo, sobre qué lo llevaría a recurrir al ejército, el mandatario dijo que no quería hacer comentarios sobre eso. "Pero ciertamente es una opción", reconoció.
Washington ha dicho claramente, desde hace algunos meses y de nuevo en los últimos días, que 'todas las opciones', incluida la militar, están sobre en la mesa en lo que refiere a la crisis venezolana.
El presidente estadounidense también ha reconocido que Maduro le solicitó una reunión "hace unos meses" y él rechazo la oferta debido a las "horribles cosas" que, a su juicio, se están produciendo en el país caribeño.
"Hace unos meses él quería reunirse", ha dicho el mandatario estadounidense, que explicó que decidió decir "no" a la petición de Maduro debido "a las muchas cosas realmente horribles que han estado sucediendo en Venezuela".
"Era -opinó Trump- el país más rico de todos en esa parte del mundo, que es una parte del mundo muy importante. Y ahora miras a la pobreza, ves la angustia y ves el crimen y todas las cosas que suceden. Entonces, creo que el proceso se está desarrollando. Tremendas protestas muy, muy grandes".
Donald Trump reconoció el 23 de enero al opositor Juan Guaidó como presidente interino de Venezuela, luego de su autoproclamación. Estados Unidos no reconoció la reelección del presidente Nicolás Maduro, que asumió su segundo período el 10 enero.
Washington aplicó estrictas sanciones económicas para presionar a Maduro a dejar el poder y también insta al ejército de Venezuela a respaldar a Guaidó.
