Trump amenaza a los manifestantes que intentaron derribar una estatua de Andrew Jackson con "diez años de prisión"
El presidente estadounidense, a través de su cuenta de Twitter, ha tachado las acciones en Washington de “vergonzoso vandalismo”.
Algunos manifestantes han intentado derribar en la noche de este lunes una estatua del expresidente de Estados Unidos Andrew Jackson en las inmediaciones de la Casa Blanca y el presidente actual, Donald Trump, les ha amenazado con “diez años de prisión”.
Además, cientos de personas han intentado ocupar el Parque Lafayette, que se encuentra enfrente de la Casa Blanca, para crear lo que han llamado una “zona autónoma Casa Negra”, similar a la “zona autónoma de Capital Hill” en Seattle. Así, los manifestantes han pintado ‘BHAZ’, las siglas de ‘Black House Autonomous Zone’, en la Iglesia de San Juan, informa la CNN.
En este contexto, Trump, a través de su cuenta de Twitter, ha descrito las acciones de los manifestantes en Washington como “vergonzoso vandalismo”.
“Numerosas personas arrestadas en Washington por el vergonzoso vandalismo en el Parque Lafayette, la magnífica estatua de Andrew Jackson y la desfiguración exterior de la Iglesia de San Juan”, ha trasladado el presidente, antes de señalar que estas acciones podrían comportar “diez años de prisión bajo la Ley de Preservación de Monumentos a los Veteranos”. ”¡Cuidado!”, ha instado Trump.
Gran parte de la sociedad estadounidense que se manifiesta estos días cuestiona los legados de los fundadores del país y otras figuras históricas en el marco de las protestas del movimiento ‘Las vidas negras importan’ para criticar el racismo sistemático, revividas masivamente tras la muerte del ciudadano afroamericano George Floyd a manos de la Policía en Mineápolis a finales de mayo.
Así, ciudades estadounidenses han retirado estatuas y monumentos que honraban a figuras confederadas, mientras que San Francisco ha retirado también su estatua de Cristóbal Colón tras una convocatoria para tirarla al mar. Albuquerque ha hecho lo propio con una estatua del conquistador español Juan de Oñate.
Sin embargo, algunas de ellas están siendo derribadas y vandalizadas, como la de George Washington en Portland o la del general confederado Albert Pike también en la capital estadounidense.
