La publicación del informe final sobre las fiestas organizadas en Downing Street durante la pandemia le ha costado al primer ministro, Boris Johnson, perder al menos tres apoyos en el seno del grupo parlamentario tory, que tiene en su poder la capacidad de tumbarle si alcanza un determinado número de firmas.
Por ahora, 18 diputados ya han repudiado públicamente a Johnson, lejos aún de los 54 necesarios, según Sky News. Los últimos en sumarse a esta lista han sido Julian Sturdy, el miércoles, y John Baron y David Simmonds, este mismo jueves.
Baron ha sentenciado que el informe de la funcionaria Sue Gray y la cascada de multas puestas por Scotland Yard evidencian “un patrón vergonzoso de mal comportamiento” por parte de las mismas instituciones que reclaman al común de los ciudadanos cumplir las medidas frente a la pandemia de COVID-19.
Simmonds, por su parte, ha abogado por un “nuevo liderazgo” en el seno del Gobierno, ya que está “claro” que el primer ministro no goza de la misma confianza que el Ejecutivo.
El malestar ha crecido entre la bancada tory, si bien no se requiere que las cartas para pedir la dimisión de Johnson se hagan públicas y algunos diputados han sido ambiguos sobre su postura, argumentando que coyunturas como la guerra en Ucrania desaconsejan un cambio repentino en Downing Street.
Johnson, que aún tiene pendiente una investigación parlamentaria, se ha disculpado en público, pero ha descartado cualquier otro gesto. Gray sí que sugirió en su informe que debía haber “responsabilidades” por parte del Gobierno, tras constatar la celebración de fiestas sistemáticas, algunas de ellas con presencia del premier.
