Estados Unidos ha vivido una nueva noche de protestas y disturbios, pese a los toques de queda declarados en las principales ciudades, cuando se cumple una semana de la muerte de George Floyd, un hombre afroamericano que falleció a manos de un policía blanco en Mineápolis (EE.UU.)
En la capital, Washington DC, algunos manifestantes han lanzado piedras y destruyendo los escaparates de las tiendas en el centro de la ciudad.
Pasadas las 23.00 hora local, todavía había manifestantes en las calles y un helicóptero militar sobrevolaba la zona en un intento de dispersar a la multitud, ya que volaba a baja altura para crear un fuerte viento y que se levantara la suciedad y arenilla del suelo.
Minutos antes del toque de queda, que se inició a las 19.00 hora local, la policía dispersaba con pelotas de goma y gases lacrimógenos a los manifestantes congregados junto a la Casa Blanca para que el presidente, Donald Trump, pudiera salir a pie poco después y fotografiarse con una Biblia junto a una iglesia próxima.
Mientras, en Nueva York, al caer el sol en Nueva York, comenzaban los primeros saqueos en la que supone la quinta jornada consecutiva de protestas en la ciudad por la muerte de Floyd.
A las 9 de la noche hora local, la enorme tienda de Microsoft de la lujosa Quinta Avenida estaba siendo saqueada por jóvenes manifestantes pese a los grandes tablones de madera colocados en las puertas del establecimiento para tratar de evitar un ataque, que fueron arrancados de cuajo.
Los primeros asaltos de las tiendas se producían pese a la importante presencia policial en la zona, con varios vehículos policiales a apenas dos manzanas de Microsoft.
Las fuerzas de seguridad, sin embargo, trataban de mantener el orden en la privilegiada zona de la Gran Manzana, donde se vieron a primera hora de la tarde multitudinarias manifestaciones pacíficas, que luego se tornaron violentas.
Tras presenciarse finalmente en la tienda de Microsoft, los policías arrestaron a uno de los asaltantes, pese que fueron decenas de personas las que entraron en la tienda para robar productos electrónicos, deteniendo a al menos dos personas más poco después en las inmediaciones.
No se libraron tampoco las tiendas de Nintendo, Michael Kors, Kate Spade o Barnes and Noble de la Quinta Avenida, mientras que la policía se enfrentó con jóvenes que irrumpieron en un establecimiento ubicado en el Rockefeller Center.
Mientras, en Atlanta, la policía barrió las calles del centro en un intento de dispersar las protestas después de la entrada en vigor de los toques de queda a las 21.00 horas.
La cadena de televisión CNN señaló que los manifestantes tiraron piedras a los agentes que respondieron con gases lacrimógenos.
Poco después, la situación se calmó, aunque la policía de la urbe ha informado de que al menos 52 personas han sido detenidas este lunes.
Entretanto, en la costa oeste, en Los Ángeles, la policía arrestó a decenas de personas que estaban en la calle tras el comienzo del toque de queda en Sunset Boulevar, en Hollywood, según medios de comunicación locales. Asimismo, se han registrado saqueos en Van Nuys Boulevard .
En otro punto de país, en Texas, se han producido altercados entre manifestantes que habían cerrado un puente en Dallas y la policía, que ha procedido a detenerlos.
Los agentes arrojaron gas lacrimógeno contra los participantes en la protesta, algunos de los cuales fueron detenidos. Muchos de ellos se sentaron en el suelo para evitar que la policía avanzara por el puente.
Por otro lado, en Chicago, en el estado de Illinois, miles de personas participaron en protestas pacíficas en las áreas de Lakeview y Uptown, y se han producido saqueos en varios barrios.
