La viuda del legendario beatle John Lennon, Yoko Ono, ha aprovechado este miércoles, el día de su aniversario de boda, para protestar contra el uso de armas de fuego en Estados Unidos. La artista ha compartido en su cuenta de Twitter una foto de las emblemáticas gafas que el cantante llevaba en el momento en que fue asesinado el 8 de diciembre de 1980, por Mark Chapman, frente al edificio Dakota de Nueva York.

La pacifista, de 79 años, ha querido denunciar el fácil acceso que tienen los estadounidenses a las armas. "Más de 1.057.000 personas han sido asesinadas con pistola en EEUU desde que John Lennon fue disparado y asesinado el 8 de diciembre de 1980". El tiroteo en una escuela de Newport el pasado 14 de diciembre que causó la muerte a 27 personas, la mayoría niños, ha abierto el debate sobre el uso de pistolas en el país.
Ono ha compartido la fotografía en cuatro tuits. "31,537 personas mueren por armas en EEUU cada año. Estamos convirtiendo este precioso país en una zona de guerra", ha denunciado para luego pedir que se vuelva a la América "verde tierra de paz". En su último mensaje, la artista ha recordado que "después de 33 años" su hijo Sean y ella aún echan de menos al famoso intérprete de Imagine.

Ono y Lennon se conocieron en 1966, cuando el cantante seguía casado con su primera esposa, Cynthia Powell, y tres años después de casaron en Gibraltar el 20 de marzo. La pareja aprovechó su luna de miel en Ámsterdam para empezar una campaña por la paz que se reforzó en los últimos años de vida del beatle y que Ono ha continuado hasta la actualidad.
