La policía de Denver ha identificado a James Holmes como presunto autor del tiroteo en un cine de Aurora (Colorado) que ha causado la muerte a al menos doce personas. Las autoridades creen que su casa "es una trampa explosiva" y ha evacuado la zona, según informan varios medios estadounidenses.
Holmes, de 24 años de edad y procedente del estado de Tennessee, dijo a las autoridades que tenía explosivos en su casa cuando fue detenido y la policía de Aurora, localidad cercana a Denver y donde se encuentra la vivienda, teme que haya preparado una trampa y ha desalojado las calles adyacentes.
Las fuerzas especiales de la policía han accedido al apartamento del joven por las ventanas del tercer piso, con sumo cuidado, utilizando cámaras de fibra de vidrio para evitar posibles explosiones. Las autoridades policiales temen que Holmes haya preparado todo un entramado de explosivos.
La policía no descarta que en el apartamento de Holmes se puedan encontrar armas y otro tipo de municiones como bombas de humo, iguales a las que utilizó durante el tiroteo en el cine.
El tiroteo comenzó pasada la medianoche (8.30 hora peninsular). Después de 15 minutos de película, un hombre vestido de negro y con una máscara de gas entró en la sala nueve del cine Century 16 de la localidad de Aurora e hizo explotar una granada de humo en medio de la sala de cine. Después, comenzó a disparar a los asistentes.
