El papa Francisco ha abandonado el hospital Politécnico Gemelli de Roma, tras haber permanecido 10 días ingresado después de someterse a una operación de colon. El pontífice ha recibido el alta y ahora deberá pasar varios días recuperándose en su residencia en El Vaticano. También se ha descartado la presencia de tumores en los análisis médicos.
Según el relato de varios testigos a Associated Press, le han visto marcharse este miércoles por la mañana en un automóvil. Antes de regresar a su habitación en la Casa Santa Marta, donde reside tras haber renunciado a vivir en los apartamentos pontificios, Francisco ha visitado la iglesia de Santa María la Mayor para dar gracias a la Virgen por su completa recuperación.
En un principio, desde El Vaticano habían indicado que Francisco podría recibir el alta el pasado fin de semana. Precisamente, y síntoma de su mejoría, el papa ofició este domingo la misa del Ángelus desde el balcón del centro sanitario romano.
Agenda de viajes internacionales
De igual forma, el pontífice tiene programadas varias salidas internacionales en su agenda. Están fijados destinos como Hungría y Eslovaquia en un viaje del 12 al 15 de septiembre, así como una parada rápida en Glasgow, Escocia, que tendrá lugar en noviembre para participar en la conferencia climática COP26.
