Kyrgios acaba entre lágrimas su particular homenaje a Bryant en su partido ante Nadal
El jugador australiano recibió una sonora ovación.
El tenista australiano Nick Kyrgios homenajeó a Kobe Bryant, fallecido en un accidente aéreo, al salir a la pista del Rod Laver Arena con la camiseta con el número 8 de Los Angeles Lakers, antes de disputar el partido de octavos de final del Abierto de Australia contra Rafael Nadal.
El jugador local, quien es un gran aficionado al baloncesto y a la NBA en concreto, no pudo contener las lágrimas cuando recibió una sonora ovación por parte del público como consecuencia de su detalle.
Por su parte, Nadal expresó en las redes sociales su conmoción tras conocer la muerte de Bryant. “Desperté esta mañana con la horrible noticia de la trágica muerte de uno de los más grandes deportistas del mundo. Kobe Bryant, su hija Gianna y los otros pasajeros. Mis condolencias a su esposa y familias. Estoy en shock”.
Bryant, ganador de cinco anillos de la NBA, falleció como consecuencia del accidente que sufrió su helicóptero en Calabasas (Los Angeles) cuando se dirigía a un partido de baloncesto con su hija de 13 años, una de las nueve víctimas mortales.
En lo referente al choque entre ambos, Nadal volvió a completar una brillante actuación para terminar con la andadura del motivado Kyrgios (26) por 6-3. 3-6, 7-6 (8) y 7-6(4) en tres horas y 38 minutos, y se enfrentará en cuartos de final del Abierto de Australia contra el austriaco Dominic Thiem.
