Boris Johnson ha actualizado el código de conducta de los parlamentarios para que no sea necesario dimitir si se incumplen las normas de comportamiento, de lo que se le acusa tras el escándalo del Partygate. Y lo hace, precisamente, la misma semana en la que se ha conocido el informe completo por las las fiestas en Downing Street durante la pandemia.
La nueva actualización del código de conducta sostiene que es “desproporcionado esperar que cualquier incumplimiento, por menor que sea, conduzca automáticamente a la renuncia o el despido”.
De este modo, si cualquier parlamentario está acusado de haber roto las reglas podrá optar por otras sanciones como una “disculpa pública, una acción correctiva o la suspensión del sueldo durante un tiempo”.
Este cambio se da justo cuando Johnson se enfrenta a una investigación por parte del comité de privilegios sobre si engañó al Parlamento al afirmar que no hubo fiestas en Downing Street durante el confinamiento y que se siguieron las normas en todo momento. El código todavía mantiene que un ministro debe renunciar si engaña “a sabiendas” a la Cámara de los Comunes.
Sin embargo, si se determina que Johnson ha infringido otros principios, como la falta de transparencia y honestidad, estos cambios en el código hacen que sea menos probable que se espere su dimisión.
