El policía imputado por el asesinato de George Floyd le aplastó el cuello durante casi nueve minutos
El informe destaca el peligro de la maniobra: “La Policía sabe que este tipo de contención sobre una persona tendida en el suelo es inherentemente peligrosa”.
Derek Chauvin, el agente de Policía imputado por el asesinato del ciudadano de raza negra George Floyd en Mineápolis, origen de la ola de disturbios que ha sacudido Estados Unidos durante los últimos días, mantuvo su rodilla sobre el cuello del fallecido durante ocho minutos y 46 segundos, según se desprende del documento presentado por la Fiscalía del condado de Hennepin contra Chauvin, ya expulsado del cuerpo.
“El acusado mantuvo su rodilla sobre el cuello del señor Floyd durante ocho minutos y 46 segundos, de los cuales dos minutos y 53 segundos después de que el señor Floyd dejara de responder a estímulos”, según el documento.
El documento fue presentado este viernes, el mismo día en que Chauvin fue acusado de asesinato en tercer grado y homicidio involuntario en segundo grado.
El documento confirma que los eventos que llevaron a la muerte de Floyd, el pasado lunes, comenzaron después de que la Policía acudiera a atender una queja sobre un billete falso de 20 dólares en un comercio local, y apunta a un forcejeo previo entre Floyd y los agentes. La víctima no quería entrar en el coche de Policía y se enzarzó con los agentes antes de tirarse al suelo. Chauvin procedió entonces a colocar su rodilla izquierda en el cuello y en la cabeza de Floyd.
El informe revela el peligro
El informe también destaca el peligro que representa esta maniobra. “La Policía sabe que este tipo de contención sobre una persona tendida en el suelo es inherentemente peligrosa”.
Floyd manifestó en varias ocasiones: “No puedo respirar”, “Mamá” y “Por favor”, mientras Chauvin y otros agentes permanecían en la misma posición, según el pliego recogido por la cadena CNN.
El documento también recoge que Floyd presentaba problemas previos de salud, según los datos preliminares de la autopsia. Este mismo documento no encuentra pruebas físicas que respalden que Floyd hubiera sido estrangulado, pero achaca su muerte a tres factores combinados: su estado previo de salud, posibles “agentes intoxicantes” en su cuerpo y, por último, la maniobra de retención de la Policía.
Chauvin, de 44 años, se encuentra detenido en la cárcel del condado de Ramsey. Es el primer oficial blanco en Minesota en ser procesado penalmente por la muerte de un civil de raza negra. La sentencia máxima por asesinato en tercer grado es de 25 años; el máximo para homicidio involuntario de segundo grado es de 10 años.
Los otros tres oficiales involucrados en la detención en la acera de Floyd también fueron despedidos, pero no han sido arrestados ni acusados, aunque se espera que ocurra pronto, según el fiscal del condado de Hennepin, Mike Freeman, al diario ‘Minnesotta Star Tribune’. “Sentimos que era importante centrarse primero en el autor más peligroso”, ha explicado.
Por otro lado, el abogado de la esposa de Chauvin ha confirmado el divorcio de la pareja y trasladado en nombre de la mujer sus más sinceras condolencias a la familia del fallecido. “Pide privacidad en estos momentos”, ha indicado el comunicado.
